Elisha’s Story
Elisha* found her way to Grace Place School at the age of 14, seeking refuge from her unstable home life and the gang-ridden neighborhood she lived in. Grace Place School became Elisha’s sanctuary, where she discovered a path to a brighter future.
She participated in job and life skills training, art classes, and business development courses while also enrolled in Grace Place’s academic classes to earn her high school diploma. She was always interested in Aviation Mechanics as a career, so the team at Grace Place developed an action plan to guide her in attaining that goal. At 18, Elisha proudly received her diploma.
However, upon graduation, Elisha faced significant challenges that threatened to derail her progress. She felt compelled to prioritize the safety and well-being of her siblings, putting her own future on hold. The staff at Grace Place tried to maintain contact with her, but in the midst of a deep depression she cut them off. Undeterred, they continued to pray for her, trusting God.
Two years later, Elisha reached out to Elizabeth, the president of Grace Place. Together they visited Broward College and Elisha shared the hardships she had endured. But she also expressed her newfound readiness to forge ahead and take positive steps toward her lifelong passion.
Today, Elisha is a student at Broward College, diligently pursuing her degree in Aviation Mechanics while working two jobs to finance her education. She’s surrounded herself with positive and supportive individuals, breaking free from the negative influences that once held her back.
Though she still faces challenges, Elisha refuses to allow these circumstances to control her life. She has become a role model for her siblings, particularly her two younger sisters who currently attend Grace Place School. Elisha’s journey demonstrates to them that they too can break free, pursue their dreams, and confidently follow God’s guidance.
Grace Place School’s motto, “Once a member of the Grace Place family, always a member,” reflects our unwavering commitment to the students we serve. Elisha’s story stands as a testament to the long-term impact of the work we do, inspiring hope in others and exemplifying the transformative power of education.
